Oh, Bloody Hell

See this?

That's probably not good. That's the BrokenTV computer right now. Shit. Although it does explain why we can now type faster than the words can appear on screen, even when we're using CPU intensive software like, erm, Notepad. Quite how 'Temp 3' can be fifty-five degrees below zero, we're not sure. There don't seem to be any icicles hanging off any part of the motherboard.

We really, really, really genuinely detest PCs.

(Warning: Anyone thinking of posting a comment along the lines of "Buy a Mac, then" had better be prepared to give us a free one if they don't expect a fiery shit-covered brick through their window in return.)

It could be that the temperature sensors are banjaxed though, not necessarily the motherboard.

I know it's a lame suggestion, but have you tried turning it off, unplugging it, leaving it 5 minutes and turning it back on again - we have a core2duo PC at work that overheats at times, and that seems to clear it.

Bah. Thanks for the suggestion, and I'd really hoped it was going to work, but no. Temp still showing at 82 degrees, even *straight* after booting from unplugged and cold for an hour.

The fans seem to be working properly, so it could seem to be just misreporting a problem, but most tasks are way slower than they should be (including typing this - I need to keep waiting for the words on screen to catch up with me). Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

Exciting update!*

(*Update may not be exciting.)

Booting my PC to Linux (from my USB drive) makes my PC work perfectly normally, except that it's all in Linux. This means something, although I don't know what.
